A Gorgeous Villain
A Gorgeous Villain by Saffron A. Kent was so good!
I absolutely loved Callie! While she may be overly hopeful at the goodness in the world at the beginning she grows a backbone eventually. Where she would have backed down from Reed before she builds up the strength to throw it right back at him instead.
“You think that I’m going to get scared like I did two years ago, don’t you? You think I’m going to do your bidding. So I’m here to tell you something: I’m not. I’m not the same girl anymore. I’m not naïve or innocent or stupid. You know why? Because when I was almost sixteen, I met a villain in the woods. He was beautiful and gorgeous and like an idiot, I fell in love with him. I believed every word he said to me. I believed every touch and every smile and every look. Until I realized that everything out of his mouth was a lie and his hands were dirty. So I escaped. I got out of his evil clutches. Unscathed. And I can do it again. So you should really rethink your strategy about blackmailing me. Because I’m not afraid of cigar-smoking villains from a bad fifties movie, or even assholes like you.”
There were times where I worried and cringed at some of her choices (continuing to lie to her brothers after she explicitly said she wouldn't among other things), but she is trying to make her own path in the world.
The scene at the bar is one of my favorites with Callie, she really lays into Reed for breaking her heart.
“Does it come with a little bow tied around it? Your surprise.”
"No, it comes with long nails and sharp teeth,” I tell him with a sweet smile and a chirpy voice"
Oh Reed...swoon.
I've added Reed to my book boyfriend list. He thinks he's just the biggest a-hole to walk the Earth, a villain. In reality he just has never been shown what love truly is.
“Are you really never going to tell her?”“Pest,” I warn. “Seriously, Reed? You’re never going to tell her what you did for her. How you got her out of that whole stupid juvie situation with D —”
He does all of these things to protect Callie, his Fae, that he doesn't even realize what it all means. He is most definitely still a villain when wants to be though.
Soooo many 🌟!! I got so into this book I could barely put it down. The spice was good, probably the only thing I think could have been different. There was almost always something that left me wanting more. Overall a must read!
